Embodies is dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle, inside and out. We believe that being environmentally conscious is NOT a fad, but a way of life. We have been very fortunate enough to work with a small group of designers dedicated to sustainable design. These amazing designers continue to push the boundaries and discover new fabrics, new designs, new packing materials, and indeed a new sustainable way to conduct business. All items in the boutique are carefully selected to ascertain that they are in accordance to our mission. Many questions are asked when considering whether to carry a line in the boutique.

What fabrics are used in the clothing? Are they organic, sustainable, recycled or reclaimed? If so how?
Where are the items manufactured? Under what conditions?
What types of dyes are used in the clothing?
What type of packaging do the clothes ship in? Is there a way to eliminate sending us plastic hangers, plastic bags and other waste?
Some designers are even selecting the shippers because of their energy policies.

All stated above, eco is complicated. There are no easy answers and often there is no perfect answer. That being said, there are quite a few of us doing our own small part to make a difference. Our hope is that collectively as a whole we have a large positive impact.

The Store

Our space came to us dark, damp, unfriendly and definitely not environmentally friendly. We fixed all of the leaks and replaced the molded carpet with cork flooring. All paint to cover the water stains was low or no VOC paint. The wall fixtures were hand made from FSC plywood and using a flexible module wall unit to allow for ever changing configurations. Because change is good.

Our lights were reclaimed from a salvage yard, refinished and hung with CFL bulbs. You get the idea. Nothing fancy in terms of dollars, but totally unique to embodies. Even our mannequins: A client named the first one Salle Mae, she is an organic mannequin. Nike rescued/reclaimed from Nike Town, was selected for her real body type with muscles. (Yes, her jeans are tight around her thighs too!) Lastly woven from all natural leaves and grasses found in my backyard, Grasses is organic materials over a reclaimed mannequin from Mannequin Madness.

Our Photographer
